HPL Library Cards
Who Can Use the Library? The Hopewell Public Library is a public library that is free and open to anyone. You do not need to have a library card to come inside, read materials within the library walls, or use library resources like the computers, copier, or fax machine (although there is a small fee for copies and faxes). You can participate in any library program or book club, whether or not you have a library card. In rare cases where seating is limited and there is a waiting list (for example, special summer children's activities in the children's room), preference will be given to cardholders. You do need a library card to check out a book, magazine, DVD, audiobook, or e-book. Please note that Hopewell Public Library is not part of the Mercer County Library System, so MCL cards cannot be used at HPL, and checked-out items need to be returned to the proper location. Patrons are welcome to belong to both libraries. How to Get a Library Card An HPL library card is free to any resident of Hopewell Township, including Hopewell Borough, Pennington Borough, and Titusville. It is also free to anyone who works for a Hopewell Borough employer and presents some evidence of their employment. Residents may present a valid driver's license or other legal documentation with their Hopewell address, or a current utility bill with their Hopewell address. Non-residents can get a card for a nominal fee of $20 per year. Children may get their own library card when they turn 6. Children under 14 must have a parent or legal guardian complete and sign their registration form, authorizing the child's use of the library. The parent/guardian must agree to be responsible for any fines, damages, losses, or charges the child may incur. To get a card, come to the library, fill out a form, and show proof of address. You must present your library card when checking out an item. If you do not have your card, you will not be able to check out materials. Adult patrons are responsible for all materials checked out on their own card as well as those checked out by any child whose card they have co-signed. If materials are lost or damaged, the adult is responsible for paying the child's fines and fees as well as their own. Lost or Replacement Card Lost or damaged cards can be replaced for $1 at the circulation desk. |
