Greenwood Ave., Hopewell NJ Free and open to the public To kick off the Hopewell Public Library and Hopewell Borough Shade Tree Commission 50th Anniversary of Earth Day Celebration, Jim Amon will talk on Seeing the Sourlands: A Photo and Essay Celebration. Jim Amon, a resident of Lambertville, has a deep and long connection with the Sourlands. In the 1980’s he and three others founded the D&R Greenway Land Trust, who now have nature preserves extending over several hundred acres in the Sourland Region. Then, in 2005, upon retiring after thirty years as Executive Director of the Delaware and Raritan Canal Commission, he became the Director of Stewardship for the D&R Greenway. In that capacity, he did ecological restoration on the Greenway’s nature preserves and built about twenty miles of recreational trails. Upon retiring from the Greenway he served on the Board of Directors for the Sourland Conservancy. The History of the Trolley Lines from Trenton, Lawrence, Hopewell and Princeton Wednesday, October 7, 7 pm -- at the Hopewell Theater 5 S. Greenwood Ave., Hopewell NJ Free and open to the public In the early decades of the 20th century, more than one million passengers each year rode the two trolley lines that connected Trenton with Princeton. Trolley tracks also extended as far as Pennington and Hopewell. This was a time when the roads were bad, the automobile was not yet dominant, and for a few cents the trolley was the cheapest, fastest, and generally safest way to get from point A to point B in Mercer County. Dennis Waters is a retired Internet publisher. He recently stepped down after twelve years of service as Lawrence Township Historian. Currently he is a visiting scientist at the Chrysler Herbarium at Rutgers University, where he studies the lichens of central New Jersey. Dennis serves as a trustee of the Lawrence Township Community Foundation and the Friends of the Lawrence Nature Center.
